McDonald’s is ready to make another big change

First, it was its classic hamburger. Now, it looks like McDonald’s is getting ready to make another big change.

McDonald’s is reportedly phasing out self-serve soda fountain machines in dining rooms across the U.S., Insider reported. The change is already underway in Illinois, as well as several states out west, though it appears it will be a drawn-out process that could last as long as a decade.

“McDonald’s will be transitioning away from self-serve beverage stations in dining rooms across the U.S. by 2032,” McDonald’s said in a statement to Insider. ” This change is intended to create a consistent experience for both customers and crew across all ordering points, whether that’s McDelivery, the app, kiosk, drive-thru or in-restaurant.”

Instead of unlimited refills, customers will be required to ask for refills at the counter. Removing the soda machines will reportedly contribute to food safety, theft prevention and fewer dine-in customers.
